DoH: Department of Health Abu Dhabi

DoH is the  Department of Health Abu dhabi, which was previously called HAAD, is the primary healthcare regulatory body of Abu Dhabi which is responsible for all the health related services all over the emirates. 

 

Abu Dhabi: All the healthcare regulatory bodies across the UAE comply to the same Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements but issues different licenses for the region. The healthcare regulatory bodies are: DoH, DHA and MOH. Across different regions, the name of department gets changed. However, some terms and conditions to the licensing process differs when it comes to examination and activation of the license. 

A healthcare professional license is mandatory to work in healthcare sectors of the UAE, the eligibility to practice as a licensed healthcare professional is different. Licensing process gives you a specified title namely General Practitioner. General Nurse, Midwife to Allied Healthcare professionals. 

What are the criteria for a Physician to obtain a DoH license?

A Physician must be a graduate from accredited Medical School with an MBBS or MBChB or equivalent qualification. The applicant should also complete any internship program with Two years of clinical experience. This is the basic requirement. Once the applicant qualifies this, rest of the documentation and paper-works can be carried out easily without much hassle. 

Is Requirement for Nurse and Allied Healthcare professionals same?

Well, the answer to this question is “No”. To apply for Registered Nurse or School Nurse or Practical Nurse or Assistant Nurse the criteria is different. The minimum qualification is diploma and an year of experience for PN and Assistant nurse. But if you are looking for a professional license in RN or School nurse you must have a degree in BSc Nursing and 2 years of experience. These are the major requirements. And when we are talking about Allied Healthcare Professional license, the criteria is vast. The list of professional title available for allied health professional is based the educational qualification. 

So, in toto, the licensing process and the license itself makes you professional and qualified. Each regulatory body is different but the license gives you immense opportunity to serve the healthcare sector of UAE. 

Department of Health also known as DOH, is an Abu Dhabi oriented regulative body of the healthcare sector. The department is responsible for all the health related services for facilities and individuals. DoH defines the strategy for the health system, monitors and analyses the health status of the entire population and ensures excellence in the Healthcare for the community. 

DoH also drives programs to increase awareness and adoption of healthy living standards among residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
